First Front Door (FFD) and Keys to Equity (Keys) provide financial assistance to eligible first-time homebuyers through participating FHLBank Pittsburgh members who offer first-mortgage financing. These programs help make homeownership more affordable by providing grants that can be used for down payments and closing costs.
Who Qualifies for FFD and Keys Funding?
Qualified first-time homebuyers have the flexibility to utilize FFD and Keys grants for both the down payment and closing costs. Each prospective homebuyer is required to:

Qualified first-time homebuyers have the flexibility to utilize FFD grants for both the down payment and closing costs. Each prospective homebuyer is required to:
- Be a first-time homebuyer: A person who has not owned a single-family home used as their primary residence in the last three years
- Contribute personal funds as part of the down payment and closing costs. Minimum personal funds contributed = $1,500.
- Have household income at or below 80 percent of the area median income at the time of registration.If a student, they must work at least 30 hours a week.
- Complete at least four hours of homeownership counseling, including the topic of predatory lending, before the purchase of the home.

Keys Grant:
Expanding access to homeownership opportunities for minority and first-generation first-time homebuyers, each prospective homebuyer is required to:
- Be a first-time homebuyer: A person who has not owned a single-family home used as their primary residence in the last three years
- Contribute personal funds as part of the down payment and closing costs. Minimum personal funds contributed = $1,000
- Have household income at or below 120% percent of the area median income for the state or county in which they currently reside.
- Self-certify as belonging to one or more minority groups and/or identify as a first-generation homebuyer.
- Be pre-approved for a mortgage with the financial institution submitting the Keys application.
The Keys Program begins March 18th and the FFD Program begins April 22nd. Both are available for a limited time.
